How an engagement runs

Engagement process

A planning engagement is not open-ended. It has a start, a working middle, and a handover. Here is what each stage looks like.

Every engagement follows the same five stages. The number of sessions inside each stage depends on which of the three service shapes you take; the order does not change.

01First call

A 30-minute consultation, no charge

We talk through how your invoices actually move, what feels thin, and whether the work is a fit. If it is not — because there is not enough invoice history yet, or because you need investment advice we do not give — we say so here and point you elsewhere.

02Scope and fee

A short written scope and a fixed fee

After the first call we send a one-page scope: which of the three service shapes fits, what the deliverable is, how many sessions, and the fee. Nothing starts until you sign off on the scope. There are no hourly surprises.

03The numbers

Pull the real numbers together

You send the last 12–24 months of invoices and bank statements, plus the recurring costs. We do not ask for anything we will not use. Account numbers stay with you; we work from totals and dates.

04The model

Build the cash-flow model and the buffers

We build a 12-month rolling model, split the fixed baseline from variable pay, size the tax buffer to your VAT cycle, and size the reserve to your client concentration. We walk you through every assumption so nothing is a black box.

05Handover

Handover you can run yourself

The deliverable is a spreadsheet you can update when a client pays late or a new contract starts, plus a one-page summary of the decisions and the order to apply them. A yearly check-in is available if you want one; it is not required.
